Belwood Lake: Quick Facts
  • Belwood Lake is located north of the town of Fergus Ontario in Wellington County
  • co-ordinates: 43° 45' 31"  Long. 80° 20' 22"
  • the lake was created by the construction of the Shand Dam in 1942 on the Grand River for flood control purposes
  • spring and summer are higher water periods. There is a gradual draw down in the fall
  • the lake is 12 km (7.5 miles) long and about 3.2 km  (2 miles) at its widest
  • maximum depths reach 65'
  • public boat launches can be found at the south end at the conservation area and another on the north end at the village of Belwood
  • the major fish species include smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, catfish and carp
  • Belwood Lake is situated within Fisheries Management Zone 16
