  • the lake is part of the Wabigoon River system and its water levels fluctuate over the course of the fishing season
  • the lake has a surface area of 3087 hectares and is approx. 44 km. (28 miles) long
  • while the lake reaches depths of 21.9 metres (71'), the average depth is 7.9 metres (26')
  • there is not a lot of weed growth in the lake and where it is found pike and walleye are often situated on its edges
  • while there are reports of muskie, pike is the predominant species
  • the major fish species include walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, whitefish, perch and cisco (lake herring)
  • Clay Lake is located within the boundaries of Fisheries Management Zone 4
