  • Fanshawe Lake is located approx. 8 km north of London Ontario in Middlesex County
  • co-ordinates: Lat. 43° 03' 55"  Long. 81° 11' 12"
  • this reservoir lake was created in 1952 when the Fanshawe Dam was constructed on the Thames River to reduce flood damage
  • the North Thames River flows into the lake on the north end
  • while the lake reaches depths of 40', the average depth is 11.7'
  • the perimeter of the lake is 16.1 km (10.1 miles)
  • it is 6.4 km (4.2 miles) long and .8 km (.5 mile) wide
  • the surface area of the lake is 217 hectares (537 acres)
  • from May to October water levels remains fairly stable although heavy thunderstorms can raise the water level significantly
  • the lake bottom consists of sand , clay and rock
  • the brownish coloured water is fairly high in nutrient content
  • a public boat launch is located in the conservation area
  • the major fish species include large and smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch and a small population of walleye
  • Fanshawe Lake is located in Fisheries Management Zone 16
