Head Lake: Fast Facts
  • co-ordinates: Lat. 44° 44' 23"  Long. 78° 54' 50"
  • Head Lake is located west of Norland Ontario along County Rd. 45 in the City of Kawartha Lakes
  • if you are unfamiliar (or familiar) with this lake beware of the numerous rock piles near the surface especially under low water conditions
  • the lake consists of a single basin with many fish holding underwater humps and shoals. The deeper east side of the lake has a number of points, islands and bays. Weedbeds can be found in the shallows and at the river mouth.
  • the Head River flows into the lake on the northeast side and exits on the northwest
  • while the lake reaches maximum depths of 24' (7metres), the average depth is 14' (4 metres)
  • major fish species include large and smallmouth bass, walleye, muskie and yellow perch
  • there are two public boat launches on the lake
  • Head Lake is situated within Fisheries Management Zone 17
