Lake Joseph: Quick Facts
  • co-ordinates: Lat.45° 11' 06" Long.79° 42' 58"
  • Lake Joseph, along with Lake Rosseau and Muskoka, is one of the "big 3" lakes in the Muskoka District
  • Lake "Joe" is a classic Canadian Shield lake with deep, cold, well oxygenated clear water
  • the deepest areas of the lake reach 300' in the north end
  • the watershed is fairly small with only a handful of inflowing creeks
  • there are numerous shoals, points, reefs, channels, drop offs, saddles and bays (some of which have good weedbeds)
  • access to Lake Rosseau is available at the south end of the lake at Port Sandfield. A short channel on the east side of the lake connects to Little Joseph Lake
  • the major fish species include lake trout, smallmouth bass and pike. Secondary species include walleye, whitefish, herring and largemouth bass
  • Lake Joseph is situated within Fisheries Management Zone 15
  • there is a shortened ice fishing season where trout and walleye are principal targets
