Loon Lake: Quick Facts
  • Loon Lake is located south of the village of Newboro in the County of Leeds and Grenville.
  • the lake is part of the Rideau Canal system. It is one of seven interconnected lakes including Newboro, Mosquito, Indian, Clear and Benson Lake. Locking is not required to access these lakes
  • while the mid section of the lake reaches depths of 9 metres (30'), the remainder is quite shallow
  • the perimeter of the lake is 13 km (8.1 miles)
  • the shallows contain milfoil and coontail weed, lily pad beds, submerged logs and stumps providing ideal habitat for largemouth bass and pike. Larger pike will move to deeper water in the summer. Smallmouth bass can be found along the rubble shorelines, points and shoals of the lake's deeper section
  • there is a public gravel boat launch beside the bridge at Bedford Mills on the southwest end of the lake. You can also access the lake from a concrete ramp off of Lock Road at Newboro Lake. From there boat along the northwest side of Newboro Lake to Steven's Creek and into Loon Lake
  • the major fish species include large and smallmouth bass, pike, black crappie, bluegill and perch
  • Loon Lake lies within Fisheries Management Zone 18
