Shebandowan Lake: Quick Facts
  • Shebandowan Lake is located 90 km. (56 miles) west of Thunder Bay along Hwy 11 in Northwestern Ontario
  • co-ordinates: Lat. 48° 20'  Long. 90° 20'
  • the lake is divided by narrows into Lower, Middle and Upper Shebandowan. The lower portion is shallow, stained and has a number of large islands in it. It favours a warm water fishery. The middle and upper sections are deeper, clearer with a lot more rock structure. The later 2 sections favour a cold water fishery.
  • while walleye are found throughout all three basins, your best bet would be to focus on lower section of the lake. There are four spring sanctuary areas on the lake at major inflows: Swamp River, Kashabowie River, Greenwater Creek and Sawmill Creek
  • major fish species include walleye, smallmouth bass, pike, perch and whitefish. The decline in the lake trout fishery has resulted in a  year round closure. Check the regulations for annual updates
  • the lake reaches maximum depths of 124'. The average depth is 25'
  • Shebandowan Lake is situated within Fisheries Management Zone 6
