Upper Rideau Lake: Quick Facts
  • Upper Rideau Lake is located beside the town of Westport Ontario in the County of Leeds and Grenville
  • co-ordinates: Lat. 44° 40' 58"  Long. 76° 20' 11"
  • Upper Rideau Lake is part of the Rideau Canal system. It connects to Newboro Lake via a lock on the south side and to Big Rideau Lake via the lock at County Road 14 on the east
  • while the lake reaches maximum depths of 72' (22 meters), the average depth is 26'  (8 meters)
  • the perimeter of the lake is 40 km (25 miles)
  • the surface area is 1,362 hectares (3,366 acres)
  • efforts to stock walleye have been undertaken but the population is small
  • there are good milfoil, cabbage and lily pad beds in the bays around the lake. Structural features such as the islands on the east end, main lake points  and shoals are also fish attractors
  • there is a public boat launch at the town of Westport
  • the major fish species include large and smallmouth bass, northern pike, walleye, perch bluegill and black crappie
  • Upper Rideau Lake is situated within Fisheries Management Zone 18
