Wanapitei Lake: Quick Facts
  • Wanapitei Lake is located beside the village of Skead north of Sudbury in the District of Sudbury
  • co-ordinates: Lat. 46° 44' 14"  Long. 80° 44' 37"
  • the lake is bowl shaped and reaches depths of 152 metres (500'). The diameter is approx. 19.3 km (12 miles)
  • the Wanapitei River enters the lake on the north side and exits the southeast side at Outlet Bay
  • the mouth of the North Wanapitei River is a popular early season area for post spawn walleye
  • most of the trout fishing is done during the ice fishing season. During the summer months try trolling in depths that range from 65'-85'
  • the lake offers excellent structure for a first class smallmouth bass fishery. Rock rubble shorelines, points, shoals and underwater humps are home to good sized bass. Walleye can be caught in these areas as well
  • a sanctuary zone exits on the North Wanapitei River in the spring
  • the major fish species include lake trout, walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, whitefish and yellow perch
  • Wanapitei Lake is situated within Fisheries Management Zone 10
